Customer Privacy Policy

Overview

Maine Natural Gas recognizes the importance of protecting the privacy of its customers. The Customer Privacy Policy is a formal statement of principals and guidelines for collection, use and disclosure of customer personal information.

The principles of the Customer Privacy Policy guide the way we collect, use and disclose our customers’ personal information.

These principles require that we:

Be accountable:

We will safe-guard personal customer information under our control and have a Privacy Committee to ensure compliance with this Policy’s principles.

Identify purposes for collection:

We will identify the purposes for collecting personal information at or before the time the information is collected.

Obtain customer consent:

We will seek the customer’s understanding and consent for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information.

Limit collection:

We will limit the collection of personal information only for the purposes identified.

Limit use, disclosure and retention:

We will not use or disclose personal information beyond the stated purposes for which it was collected, except with the consent of the customer or as required by law. We will retain information only as long as necessary to fulfill those purposes.

Ensure accuracy:

We will endeavor to ensure a customer’s personal information is accurate, complete and up-to-date.

Provide safeguards;

We will provide personal information with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

Communicate clearly:

We will have information on our Privacy Policy and related practices readily available to customers.

Provide customer access:

We will make customer’s specific information readily available to them upon request.                      

Provide opportunities for customer feedback:

We will provide opportunities for customers to address concerns with compliance of this Policy’s principles, through the use of the Policy Committee and other communications.
